Product training · the reinsurance suite, hands on
Run the treaty year
One renewal season at Meridian Re, worked in the real product: the Alpina MTPL XL renewal through the underwriting desk — rulebook, authority, capacity, decision — and its claims through the claims desk — developments, bordereau, reconciliation, recovery.

This is not a course about reinsurance in general — it is training for the MeshWeaver reinsurance suite as deployed. Every lesson opens in the product's own screens, on the installed demo book, and every exercise changes one real thing and watches the system react.

The operating goal you are training toward

The suite is built for straight-through processing: about 80% of items should pass without manual modification — renewal submissions auto-decided within delegated authority, bordereau lines auto-reconciling ✅, agent drafts accepted as-is.

And you get there by iterating the texts — the guideline rules, the reconciliation tolerances, the briefs and enquiry templates — not by adding manual steps. Three lessons each run one full turn of that loop (measure the pass rate, adjust the text, measure again):

Who this is for

Underwriters, claims analysts and underwriting assistants joining a desk that runs on the MeshWeaver reinsurance suite — and the engineers and consultants who configure it for them.

What you'll be able to do at the end

Before you start

  1. Basic Risk Transfer — the cession arithmetic this course leans on (one formula is restated in Lesson 11, the rest is assumed).
  2. Setup — which modules must be installed on your mesh and how to import the demo book. The walkthroughs work read-only on any mesh that serves the demo; the change-one-thing exercises need an installation you may write to.

How each lesson works

Band What it is
🧭 In the product The concrete click path from the dashboard to the screen this lesson lives on — plus the guided tour stop where one exists.
📖 Theory What the product computes and why, kept short, with the real rulebook clauses and record shapes.
Experience it A live code cell reproducing the product's calculation on the same numbers — read it, run it, change it.
✍️ Your turn Three graded exercises. The 🟡 one usually changes one item in the installed product and watches the system react.

The syllabus

Part 1 — Underwriting the treaty year (the underwriting desk)

  1. The submission — what arrives at renewal, read critically
  2. The rulebook as data — guidelines as typed rules, and the STP loop
  3. Authority and referral — who may sign what
  4. Capacity and aggregation — caps, the book, correlated exposure
  5. The decision — verdict, share action, governance
  6. The renewal book — the register, hit ratios, walking away

Part 2 — Claims and recoveries (the claims desk)

  1. The claim record — append-only development history
  2. Development — how claims move between evaluations
  3. The bordereau — the cedent's loss statement
  4. Reconciliation — four verdicts, and what each triggers
  5. Cession and recovery — gross claim to treaty recovery
  6. Closing the year — enquiries, audit trail, the year-end position

The worked book

Everything runs on the suite's installed demo book — and every number in the lessons, exercises and quizzes reconciles to that one book.
