Lesson 1 — Idea storm

Status: produced — rendered as content/videos/idealab1.mp4 (piper voiceover en_US-ryan-high + the Video plugin's Remotion archetype scenes) and embedded on this lesson.

Target: ~50s · 16:9 · 1080p · captions from the OVERLAY lines. Palette: the cover hero — violet #2e1065 → burnt orange #7c2d12, accent #fb923c, gold #fbbf24, off-white type. Voice: warm and unhurried — a coach for ten-year-olds, with a real pause after every question.

Rules for this course's videos: nothing on screen the narrator does not say; no word a ten-year-old would not use; every scene ends in something to do.

The 4 scenes

Scene 1 — The idea storm · 0:00–0:07

VOICEOVER: How do you get a really good idea? Here is the surprise. You do not start with a good one. You start with lots of them.

ON SCREEN: Hook card: "The idea storm". (hook scene)

OVERLAY: Start with LOTS.

Scene 2 — The four storm rules · 0:07–0:28

VOICEOVER: There are four storm rules. One. Lots! Count your ideas. Two. No saying, that is stupid. Judging comes later. Three. Wild is welcome. A wild idea can be tamed, a boring one never gets exciting. Four. Yes, and. Build on every idea.

ON SCREEN: The four rules appear one by one as the narrator names them. (list scene)

OVERLAY: Lots · No judging · Wild · Yes, and

Scene 3 — The idea curve · 0:28–0:41

VOICEOVER: Your first five ideas are the ones everybody has. Ideas six to ten get interesting. And from idea eleven on, you find the ones nobody else has. So when you feel stuck, keep going!

ON SCREEN: The idea curve in three steps. (flow scene)

OVERLAY: Stuck? Keep going!

Scene 4 — Think «no more ideas»? Keep going. · 0:41–0:50

VOICEOVER: Now try it yourself. What else could a cardboard box be? Find ten ideas. Then find ten more.

ON SCREEN: End card. (end scene)

OVERLAY: Your turn: a cardboard box.
