Who is this course for
For curious kids in the middle grades — about 9 to 12 years old (in Switzerland: the Mittelstufe, grades 4 to 6).
You need no special talent. You need a pencil, a few sheets of paper, and the courage to write down silly ideas. It works fine on your own, and it's even more fun with a friend, a sibling, your class or your family.
What you will be able to do
- Collect lots of ideas fast — and keep going when the easy ones run out
- Use a spin wheel to mix things that don't belong together, and draw what comes out
- Build your own wheel and work out how many combinations it can make
- Turn random ingredients into a story or an invention
The four lessons
- Lesson 1 — Idea storm — the four storm rules, and why the best ideas hide behind the first ten.
- Lesson 2 — Spin and draw — let chance pick a character, a place and an action, then grab your pencil.
- Lesson 3 — Build your own wheel — become the wheel maker, and discover how wheels multiply.
- Lesson 4 — The story machine — hero, wish, problem, ending: spin a story and invent a gadget.
